In our community, we offer a bereavement support team that can help anyone who has experienced a loss, but everyone in our community.
During these trying times, we would want to extend an invitation to anyone who believes they require assistance to contact us so that we can attempt to assist them in dealing with current events. While we cannot provide guidance, we would be pleased to speak with anyone who has been impacted by the COVID-19 epidemic and its implications and provide assistance.
Along with our traditional mandate of bereavement counselling, we can help people deal with fears, loneliness, isolation, and coping with changes in their lives due to their self-isolation. For some, this may be nothing more than simply having someone to chat to.
Being bereaved of a family one can be a challenging experience to go through. When you are experiencing the emotional effects of sorrow, our Bereavement Support staff is here to help you get through it.
We understand that everyone’s reaction to grief is unique, so we provide a variety of support alternatives to help you or your family members through this difficult time. The stress associated with a death can be terrible. Sometimes people just need some space to process their emotions with someone, not a member of their immediate family or close friends.
Our Family Support Team, which comprises qualified volunteer family workers and counsellors who have received specialized training, may assist adults, adolescents, and children. MelodiaCare is closely monitored and overseen by a team of certified counsellors and social workers.
Depending on their needs, the Family Support Worker would visit clients in their homes. Each session will last around one hour. The number of visits and frequency will be agreed upon between you and the worker.
You may opt to participate in one of our support groups, where you will have the opportunity to meet other people who have been through a similar situation. We provide Bereavement Support Groups that are tailored to the specific requirements of the participants.
Following an evaluation, you may be given the option to participate in one of these groups. They are primarily intended to provide a secure atmosphere for discussion and mutual support with other people who have had a death in their family.
Grieving is a personal experience; it is unique to each person who goes through it. There isn’t a
"proper" way to go about it. The passage of time does not bring about healing; instead, it is only
through grieving that we may begin to move through the suffering.
When a loved one of a Melodia Hospice patient passes away, the Melodia Bereavement The program provides a comprehensive range of bereavement services to them. Our hospice patient bereavement services at Alameda County are provided for up to 13 months following the death of a loved one and include the following services:
- Grief and loss support groups meet once a week through the internet.
- Telephone calls of encouragement
- Individual and family counselling is provided in the comfort of one’s own home.
- Four times a year, you will receive educational materials about grieving and loss, along
with coping methods, to assist you in dealing with the stress of mourning. - Referrals and information about available community resources are provided.
- Light Up a Life is a yearly tree-lighting ceremonial service in the community.
- Bereavement Support Groups are available.
Regardless of whether the dead received treatment from Melodia Hospice Agency, grieving support groups are available to loved ones of Melodia Hospice patients and members of the general public. Support groups allow people to get together in a caring and safe setting with other people who are going through a difficult time.
Grief support groups educate members on the emotions they may be experiencing after the death of a loved one. We will discuss common grief reactions, coping methods, and self-care throughout the grieving process, all with the assistance of our Hospice team. We have the following groups available:
- The Death of a Spouse
- The Loss of a Parent
- The Loss of an Adult Child Support Group
Family members can often experience emotions and physical reactions in the days and weeks
following a loved one’s death. As a result, family members are frequently forced to confront new
obstacles while dealing with intense grief.
The ability to openly discuss one’s experiences, reactions, and feelings is critical during the grieving process for those who have lost a family member or friend. Hospice MelodiaCares The bereavement Support program provides family and friends with the emotional and practical assistance they require as they begin their journey through this difficult time.
One-on-one help from a dedicated pool of volunteers, working either over the phone or in-person as well as online can assist them in acknowledging the death, coping with the more immediate tasks of living while grieving, sharing their pain, sadness, and tears, as well as memories and stories; and providing insight into their experiences.
Those who are grieving can benefit from the grief support program in the following ways:
- Individual sessions with a Client Services Coordinator for a short period (CSC)
- A CSC facilitates a Bereavement Peer-Based Support Group.
- Volunteers make one-on-one support calls to individuals in need.
After the support session, volunteers can also provide information and recommendations to
formal community grief groups for those who have lost a loved one to a fatal illness.
