Let’s be honest. There are major events in life such as walking down the aisle, and that’s considered a “big day.” You’ve got the gorgeous dress, the floral arrangements, the caterer, and this and that, but how about your skin? Is your complexion ready, and your lips, hands, feet, etc? Glowing, healthy skin matters; it’s something people notice about you. Our skincare experts are sharing their favorite tips on how to prepare your skin for your big day.
Got Water? Drink Up
It may sound silly because we all drink water, but having your H2O in your skincare ritual is key. When you’re drinking water, you’re giving your body’s cells hydration and freshness. You may be helping to maintain thicker skin with good elasticity.
According to a study conducted by the International Journal of Cosmetic Science, drinking 9.5 cups of water per day for a month can alter the skin’s density and thickness.
Leading dermatologists say that using a gentle cleanser, instead of bar soap is also best when choosing a skincare routine. In addition, you should avoid skincare formulas that contain alcohol, which is very drying.
Topical Treatments Better
Even more effective than drinking water for radiant skin are topical moisturizers, according to New York City’s Joshua Zeichner, MD, a board-certified dermatologist. You can “feed” your complexion and your body with hydration when you apply a moisturizer because its elements draw in water and keep it locked in.
For instance, a high-quality dry skin cream that features lanolin is an excellent ingredient for helping to keep the skin hydrated from the outside in. The emollient does not clog pores and helps to maintain soft, plump skin.
Look for lanolin in a multipurpose cream. That way, you can apply its richness to the face, hands, legs, feet, and rest of your body for superb hydration with a protective layer.
Exfoliation For Smoothness
Smooth, soft skin is something most of us desire, and exfoliation is another beauty step that can take you to a more beautiful complexion a few weeks before your big day.
Exfoliation allows you to remove the dried, dead skin cells that usher in fresh new cells for more radiant, clear, touchable skin. Another big benefit is after exfoliation, your favorite moisturizers and serums can penetrate better giving you optimum effectiveness.
Also, when you put on foundation makeup, it will glide across your skin more easily, and you can avoid flaky patches, etc.
Exfoliation can be performed in two ways, manually as a scrub, for instance. Or you can have a chemical exfoliation applied as a peel from a salon professional.
Don’t forget your elbows, too. You can exfoliate in the shower and use a pumice stone for about a minute on each foot, also.
Face Rolling With Jade
Here’s a popular skin prepping tool that can be done for a few minutes each day or night before your big event. Even celebrities have been caught using their favorite jade skin roller.
Actress Courteney Cox has ageless skin, and she was photographed “jade rolling” in a restaurant with her friends as they waited for a table. She was gently massaging the roller across her face.
The beauty tool is designed to stimulate the lymphatic system to decrease facial puffiness and stimulate blood flow to increase your skin’s natural glow.
Rolling also eases tension, and model Kaia Gerber uses the beauty aid every morning after washing her face. She finds it relaxing and great for de-puffing the area under her eyes.
Sleeping For Beauty
Your big day is extremely important to you, and you want to look your very best. Make sure that you’re getting your zzzs. It shows up on your skin.
Every sleeping beauty should aim for eight hours. Your body from head to toe needs those hours of rest. Your skin is the largest organ and rebuilds its collagen and repairs damage from sun exposure as you sleep.
Congratulations on your big day! Preparation is essential for an effective skincare routine. Follow our guide above for skin that will glow, be soft and touchable and give you confidence for a beautiful moment. All eyes are on you.
