So many people disregard desktops these days and see laptops as the default option. This is interesting since laptops were originally made to be backup options for PCs. And, we still believe that laptops should be a second option in many cases. A lot of people would be better served by a desktop right now and may not even realize it. If you’ve been thinking about getting a new computer, here are a few reasons why you should consider getting a desktop PC.
You’re Probably Not Taking Full Advantage of Your Laptop’s Portability
Some people absolutely need a laptop to function, like on-campus students for instance, or people who work on the road. But many people get a laptop out of fear that they’ll be limited or because they assume that they will need it when they really don’t.
A lot of people end up doing most of their heavy work from home and just use the laptop to browse around and for entertainment when they’re on the go. You also have people who originally think that they’ll be doing a lot of work in public spaces who then realize that they’re more comfortable at home.
If that’s you, then it would be wiser to get a desktop for work. And, if you need something to watch media or do simple things like catch on emails while you’re out and about, then a tablet with a keyboard could work as your second option.
You Don’t Have Much to Spend
If you only have a few hundred dollars to spend on a machine, spending it on a laptop unless you absolutely need it is a bad idea. You won’t get much from a laptop under $800, but you could get a monster of a machine at that price.
Lenovo.com has 4ghz 11th Gen Intel laptops for under $600 and they will handle virtually any task under the sun. You’d be lucky to get a mid-level Chromebook at that price. So don’t understand how powerful of a machine you could get just by going for a tower.
You’re Clumsy
Laptops get damaged all the time, and something as simple as spilling coffee on it or dropping it could force you to make expensive repairs or replace it. Not everyone can afford to buy a new laptop or make major repairs. If you’ve had incidents with a laptop before, or all your phones got cracked at some point, it may be safer to get a stationary machine instead.
You’re a Gamer
All professional gamers use desktops as their primary machine, and it’s completely understandable. Not only can they get much more powerful specs, but they can also add peripherals like ultra-high refresh rate monitors and mechanical keyboards. These are not things you’re likely to see on a laptop.
These are all reasons why desktop PCs should be considered by more people. Before you purchase a laptop, assess your habits and the benefits of desktops first.
